The Prophetic WordDay 110: Rest is a Person.

““If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you. “I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, bereaved, and helpless]; I will come [back] to you.” ‭‭John‬ ‭14‬:‭15‬-‭18‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Many years ago I had gotten a new computer and had a problem with it launching the screensaver. I tried everything I knew, went through every menu, until I began to feel hopeless in my efforts.

Out of total frustration with the situation, I called a helpline to see if they could determine what I was doing wrong. In the course of talking, the representative asked permission to take over control of my computer. I gave my permission (I knew this was an official help site) and watched in amazement as the cursor on my computer began to move to different drop-down menus and select, go to another place and select, to yet another place and select, until finally the representative said, “That should do it,” and it had.

What I could not do on my own was done for me by an expert…after I gave my permission for them to do so.

Yesterday we discussed the fact that there is rest in the presence of the Lord. Today we must also add that His Presence IS the Rest!

“But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts [and taken complete possession of them]. But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you].” ‭‭John‬ ‭16‬:‭5‬-‭7‬ ‭AMP‬‬

The Holy Spirit working in us is God Himself. As such, we can be guided into all that the Lord has for us. His presence in us gives us access to the presence of God because He is the Presence of God! Think of it, the Holy Spirit in us gives us access to all God is.

Indeed, His Spirit in us is the rest He has offered to us.

“For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies and confirms together with our spirit [assuring us] that we [believers] are children of God. And if [we are His] children, [then we are His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His spiritual blessing and inheritance], if indeed we share in His suffering so that we may also share in His glory.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭14‬-‭17‬ ‭AMP‬‬

The Holy Spirit of God within us brings us assurance of sonship and the ability to walk as God’s child, God’s heir.

In following the leading of the Holy Spirt, constantly submitting our will to Him, we will continue to walk in the Rest He provides.

In our opening scripture we see Jesus assuring the disciples (and us!) that they are not being abandoned.

Indeed, as we saw above, it was only through His returning to the Father that the gift of His presence could be sent back to us. As well, we see that He will live with us forever!

Now, just as I would have received no help for accessing my screensaver had I not submitted to the control of the help representative, those who resist the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives, will never experience His rest.
