“Then David said to Joab and all those who were with him, “Tear your clothes and put on burlap. Mourn for Abner.” And King David himself walked behind the procession to the grave. They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king and all the people wept at his graveside. Then the king sang this funeral song for Abner: “Should Abner have died as fools die? Your hands were not bound; your feet were not chained. No, you were murdered— the victim of a wicked plot.” All the people wept again for Abner.”
2 Samuel 3:31-34 NLT
The Lord has put it on our heart to share with you some prophetic words given at different points in time; some, to particular individuals. But these words contain messages from the Lord that do not have a private interpretation, but can benefit anyone who takes them to heart. So let’s begin with a cautionary word:
In 2 Samuel 3, we see the story of the death of Abner. Now Abner, had been the commander of Saul‘s army. After Saul’s death, Abner supported one of Saul’s sons, Ish-bosheth, to be King after him. However, when Ish-bosheth accused Abner of inappropriately having a relationship with one of Saul‘s former concubines, Abner was offended and went to David (king only of Judah at this time), offering to help him combine the Kingdom (to unite Judah and Israel under David’s rule).
Now, Abner had killed Joab’s brother (Joab was the commander of David’s army); so Joab was not pleased that David was being friendly with him. So, Joab deceived Abner, getting him alone, stabbing him in the stomach, and killing him. David then lamented Abner‘s death. As we see in our opening scripture, David asks the question: “Should Abner have died as fools die?” You see Abner was a great commander in the army. As such, he should not have allowed himself to be deceived into making himself vulnerable to an attack.
Child of God, the enemy of our souls wants us all to die as fools. He works constantly to get us so worn down that he can take us out—whether physically or spiritually.
Don’t allow yourself to fall prey to the devil's plan for you. You must live and not die! You were born with purpose and that has not changed. The darkness you are experiencing is meant to keep you from seeing the way out. When we are desperate, we can put ourselves in real peril and/or do regrettable things.
The Lord wants to take your hand and walk you out of the mess you are in. He wants to make you a new person!
I pray for you to be made a new person, that you go through the open door in front of you leading to the Lord's plan for you in His Kingdom and His righteousness.
Consider this warning a lifeline thrown to you by the Lord.
Speak this scripture over your own life—as often as it takes—until your breakthrough comes:
“I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the Lord. The Lord has disciplined me severely, but he has not given me over to death. Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it. I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.”
Psalm 118:17-21 ESV
The Lord cares about you. You are important to Him. Don't take another step on the path of destruction. Grab this lifeline! Live in victory! Don’t be taken out like a fool!
Peace to you.
Jesus is coming! Get ready for Him!
