In preparation for our discussion over the next five days, please carefully read and meditate on these passages of scripture:
“Happy is the man who is always reverent, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.”
Proverbs 28:14 NKJV
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.”
Proverbs 3:5-8 NKJV
“The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, Searching all the inner depths of his heart.”
Proverbs 20:27 NKJV
“Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me. But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.””
John 10:25-30 NKJV
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.”
John 14:16-18 NKJV
“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
John 15:15-16 NKJV
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”
John 16:7, 12-13 NKJV
“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
Romans 8:26-27 NKJV
We may look at how people experienced God, how He spoke to them, in the days of the Old Testament, with envy. Yes, it seems that the Lord spoke to them in more “dramatic” ways.
But, the fact is, any of the patriarchs would have been in awe of us being able to be indwelt by the Holy Spirit of God!
Indeed, by way of the Holy Spirit, we have the Lord inside of us, working with us, to fulfill His purposes. We only have need to listen and follow His leading.
Sadly, even some spirit-filled Christians still fail to walk in consistent obedience to the voice of the Lord.
Over the next several days, we will be discussing what it means to live a life characterized by always being mindful of God’s way of being and doing, always being mindful of His heart and His will.
Peace to you.
Jesus is coming! Get ready for Him!
