“Now the young woman pleased him [Hegai the custodian of the women], and she obtained his favor; so he readily gave beauty preparations to her, besides her allowance. Then seven choice maidservants were provided for her from the king’s palace, and he moved her and her maidservants to the best place in the house of the women.”
Esther 2:9 NKJV
Have you ever been around a schmoozer? You know the ones; they go into situations acting in such a way as to impress and/or manipulate others.
Of course, there is nothing wrong with putting your best foot forward; this is not that, and you know it when you see it.
Schmoozers are generally insincere in their social interactions and very self-serving. The schmoozer doesn’t trust the Lord to surround them with favor. Indeed, they likely don’t trust the Lord at all.
Now, the favor of the Lord is like the machete used by a trail-blazer; it clears God’s path for you and makes a way for you to get what you need to do what you need to do.
No amount of schmoozing can bring what the favor of the Lord brings. Additionally, schmoozing can put you where you don’t need to be, whereas the favor of the Lord is only found in God’s will.
We see in our opening scripture that Esther—having been put under the custody of one of the eunuchs—has obtained his favor and is receiving good portions as well as the best accommodations.
Now, of course, we still know that Esther is not there because this was a path that she personally chose. Rather, she is following the path opened for her by the Lord.
Please don’t misunderstand, the favor of the Lord does not mean that we are preparing or being prepared for what the Lord would have us to do; and, we’ll see more about that tomorrow.
For today we focus on the importance of having the favor of the Lord that comes through being in His will.
Additionally, we must trust the Lord to provide favor in the direction in which we need to go. We should never be tempted to schmooze our way into anything. As well, we should never despair, thinking we would never be able to be chosen for any particular thing. If God has something for you, it is for you. He will provide the favor—and the provision that comes from that favor—to make it possible.
Peace to you.
Jesus is coming. Get ready for Him.
