“The king turned to his attendants and said, “Tell Haman to come quickly to a banquet, as Esther has requested.” So the king and Haman went to Esther’s banquet.”
Esther 5:5 NLT
King Nebuchadnezzar had a troubling dream that he presented to Daniel for interpretation. As Daniel interpreted the dream, he warned King Nebuchadnezzar to turn from his ways in order that he might avoid the prophesied judgment. Sadly, he did not take what Daniel said to heart.
““But all these things did happen to King Nebuchadnezzar. Twelve months later he was taking a walk on the flat roof of the royal palace in Babylon. As he looked out across the city, he said, ‘Look at this great city of Babylon! By my own mighty power, I have built this beautiful city as my royal residence to display my majestic splendor.’ “While these words were still in his mouth, a voice called down from heaven, ‘O King Nebuchadnezzar, this message is for you! You are no longer ruler of this kingdom. You will be driven from human society. You will live in the fields with the wild animals, and you will eat grass like a cow. Seven periods of time will pass while you live this way, until you learn that the Most High rules over the kingdoms of the world and gives them to anyone he chooses.’ “That same hour the judgment was fulfilled, and Nebuchadnezzar was driven from human society. He ate grass like a cow, and he was drenched with the dew of heaven. He lived this way until his hair was as long as eagles’ feathers and his nails were like birds’ claws.”
Daniel 4:28-33 NLT
One moment, Nebuchadnezzar was literally king of the world; the next moment, he is living as an animal. Judgment fell when he was completely caught up in his own “greatness.”
Jesus taught this parable:
“Then he told them a story: “A rich man had a fertile farm that produced fine crops. He said to himself, ‘What should I do? I don’t have room for all my crops.’ Then he said, ‘I know! I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones. Then I’ll have room enough to store all my wheat and other goods. And I’ll sit back and say to myself, “My friend, you have enough stored away for years to come. Now take it easy! Eat, drink, and be merry!”’ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! You will die this very night. Then who will get everything you worked for?’”
Luke 12:16-20 NLT
As with Nebuchadnezzar, this rich man became a fool thinking that his riches would never fail him. But, his riches could not save him when he faced eternity.
Make no mistake, sooner or later the time of delay is over and judgment comes.
Just so, the coming of the Lord to deal with His enemies will suddenly come, even as many are boasting of their security:
“Now concerning how and when all this will happen, dear brothers and sisters, we don’t really need to write you. For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. When people are saying, “Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.”
1 Thessalonians 5:1-3 NLT
Now, we may not see the judgment of God on the wicked here, but ultimately, we will all stand before a holy God.
“For we must all stand before Christ to be judged. We will each receive whatever we deserve for the good or evil we have done in this earthly body.”
2 Corinthians 5:10 NLT
In today’s opening scripture we see that the king accepts Esther’s invitation and sends for Haman to join them. Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick,…
Haman doesn’t even see it coming…
Peace to you.
Jesus is coming! Get ready for Him!
