Year of Realization - Day 19: Our outcome is not determined by “luck.”

"In the first month, the month of Nisan (Mar-Apr), in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, Haman cast Pur, that is, the lot, cast before him day after day [to find a lucky day to approach the king], month after month, until the twelfth month, the month of Adar (Feb-Mar).”

‭‭Esther‬ ‭3‬:‭7‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Are you superstitious? Do you knock on wood? Carry a rabbit’s foot? Avoid black cats? Cross your fingers? I could go on and on until I could probably find something you’re doing that indeed is superstitious.

To clarify, for our purposes, a superstition is a practice based on the belief that certain things you do or don’t do will supernaturally affect what happens next.

OK, that’s superstition per se, but there are also acts thought to bring supernatural impact on the outcome.

The old (I mean OLD) activity of “casting lots” to aid a decision was actually used in the Old and New Testament to determine God’s will. However, unless the Lord speaks directly that we should use such a device, we do well to pray and allow the Lord to guide us by His Holy Spirit.

Having said that, please understand, nothing is outside of God’s sovereignty. Indeed, He can use other people’s “random” acts to actually work for the benefit of those who are His.

“And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭28‬ ‭AMP‬‬

All things, means ALL things. Yes, what some may call serendipity (“accidental” events leading to positive outcomes), in terms of the child of God, is the Lord controlling what seems to be random to benefit His child.

In our opening scripture we see that Haman—having decided to wipe out all the Jews in the empire—casts lots to see what will be the most propitious time to carry out his plot. But—as we will see—the outcome for the Jews would not be determined by chance. Rather, their outcome would be determined by the favor of a sovereign God.

Now, don’t waste your time by living a superstitious life. It is displeasing to God and can actually open up an avenue for the enemy of your soul to cause you trouble!

Finally, let the enemy cast their lots. The outcome will always be for the benefit of those of us who belong to the Lord.

Peace to you.

Jesus is coming! Get ready for Him!
