“Let the wicked fall into their own nets, While I escape safely.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭141‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Last time we discussed the fact that evil people set evil traps. Within that discussion, we made mention of the fact that the traps wicked people set, is a theme found often in the Bible, particularly in the book of Psalms.

As an extension of that discussion, we turn to look at the fact that the Lord causes evil people to fall into their own traps. As well, we should note that this theme is also found throughout the Bible. And yes, the psalms are replete with this notion as well.

In terms of the Bible in general, I would say that the most often referenced incident of someone falling into a trap they meant for someone else, is the case of Haman.

As you may know, we find the story of Haman and the Jews in the book of Esther. Indeed, because of Haman’s hatred and jealousy of Mordecai (who was a Jew), he concocted a scheme wherein all the Jews would be killed.

However, as God would have it, Haman ended up being put to death on the gallows he had built for Mordecai. Not only that, Haman’s ten sons also received the same punishment.

In our opening scripture we see the last verse of Psalm 141 in which David ends with him asking the Lord to let the wicked fall into their own traps.

David rehearses this theme many times throughout the psalms.

Here, David asks that his enemies be declared guilty and be caught in their own traps:

“O God, declare them guilty. Let them be caught in their own traps. Drive them away because of their many sins, for they have rebelled against you.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭5‬:‭10‬ ‭NLT‬

Here, David declares that the violence perpetrated by wicked people ends up coming back on them:

“The wicked conceive evil; they are pregnant with trouble and give birth to lies. They dig a deep pit to trap others, then fall into it themselves. The trouble they make for others backfires on them. The violence they plan falls on their own heads.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭7‬:‭14‬-‭16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Here David, after much distress, declares that his enemies have fallen into their own pit:

“My enemies have set a trap for me. I am weary from distress. They have dug a deep pit in my path, but they themselves have fallen into it.”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭57‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Child of God, as we have discussed, evil people do evil things, among which, they like to set traps for righteous people. But make no mistake, as we shared yesterday, if we faithfully follow after the Lord, He will keep us from the traps of the enemy. And then, sooner or later, the traps set by evil people. will prove to be their own undoing.

“When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases; But the righteous will see their fall.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭29‬:‭16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Peace to you.
