Year We have here our topics, along with our opening scriptures, for each of the last five days, as we continued our journey into the “Year of Exposure” by looking into how the treatment of God‘s word is directly related to the difference between destruction and blessing.
We continued employing the treatment of God‘s warnings through Jeremiah, as the lens through which to examine the cause effect relationship between the treatment of the word of God, and the future of individuals and nations.
Day 25: Prayers won’t save from destruction those who dishonor God’s word.
“Zedekiah son of Josiah succeeded Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim as the king of Judah. He was appointed by King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. But neither King Zedekiah nor his attendants nor the people who were left in the land listened to what the Lord said through Jeremiah. Nevertheless, King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the priest, son of Maaseiah, to ask Jeremiah, “Please pray to the Lord our God for us.””
Jeremiah 37:1-3 NLT
Day 26: For those who don’t heed God‘s word, hope in all else, is false hope.
““But if you refuse to obey the Lord your God, and if you say, ‘We will not stay here; instead, we will go to Egypt where we will be free from war, the call to arms, and hunger,’ then hear the Lord’s message to the remnant of Judah. This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you are determined to go to Egypt and live there, the very war and famine you fear will catch up to you, and you will die there. That is the fate awaiting every one of you who insists on going to live in Egypt. Yes, you will die from war, famine, and disease. None of you will escape the disaster I will bring upon you there.’”
Jeremiah 42:13-17
Day 27: Having no conviction concerning the word of God, will lead to destruction.
“Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “This is what the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you surrender to the Babylonian officers, you and your family will live, and the city will not be burned down.”
Jeremiah 38:17 NLT
““But I am afraid to surrender,” the king said, “for the Babylonians may hand me over to the Judeans who have defected to them. And who knows what they will do to me!” Jeremiah replied, “You won’t be handed over to them if you choose to obey the Lord. Your life will be spared, and all will go well for you.”
Jeremiah 38:19-20 NLT
Day 28: Some never learn; and then it’s too late.
“But the Chaldean army pursued them and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. And when they had captured him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced judgment on him. Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes in Riblah; the king of Babylon also killed all the nobles of Judah. Moreover he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, and bound him with bronze fetters to carry him off to Babylon.”
Jeremiah 39:5-7 NKJV
Day 29: Those who honor God’s word are saved from destruction.
“Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, “This is what the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘If you surrender to the Babylonian officers, you and your family will live, and the city will not be burned down.”
Jeremiah 38:17 NLT
