Year We have here our topics, along with our opening scriptures, for each of the last five days, as we continued our journey into the “Year of Exposure” by looking into how the treatment of God‘s word is directly related to the difference between destruction and blessing.
We have been employing the treatment of God‘s warnings through Jeremiah, as the lens through which to examine the cause effect relationship between the treatment of the word of God, and the future of individuals and nations.
Day 19: Obeying the word of God can save you from destruction.
“How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word. I have tried hard to find you— don’t let me wander from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. I praise you, O Lord; teach me your decrees. I have recited aloud all the regulations you have given us. I have rejoiced in your laws as much as in riches. I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways. I will delight in your decrees and not forget your word. Be good to your servant, that I may live and obey your word. Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your instructions. I am only a foreigner in the land. Don’t hide your commands from me!”
Psalms 119:9-19 NLT
Day 20: When the word of the Lord is not welcome, destruction follows.
“Then Jeremiah said to Baruch, “I am a prisoner here and unable to go to the Temple. So you go to the Temple on the next day of fasting, and read the messages from the Lord that I have had you write on this scroll. Read them so the people who are there from all over Judah will hear them. Perhaps even yet they will turn from their evil ways and ask the Lord’s forgiveness before it is too late. For the Lord has threatened them with his terrible anger.””
Jeremiah 36:5-7 NLT
Day 21: When the word of God is scorned, destruction follows.
“The king sent Jehudi to get the scroll. Jehudi brought it from Elishama’s room and read it to the king as all his officials stood by. It was late autumn, and the king was in a winterized part of the palace, sitting in front of a fire to keep warm. Each time Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, the king took a knife and cut off that section of the scroll. He then threw it into the fire, section by section, until the whole scroll was burned up. Neither the king nor his attendants showed any signs of fear or repentance at what they heard. Even when Elnathan, Delaiah, and Gemariah begged the king not to burn the scroll, he wouldn’t listen.”
Jeremiah 36:21-25 NLT
Day 22: When the word of God is chained, destruction follows.
“Then the king commanded his son Jerahmeel, Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel to arrest Baruch and Jeremiah. But the Lord had hidden them.”
Jeremiah 36:26 NLT
Day 23: Where there is shame concerning the word of the Lord, destruction follows.
“Jeremiah was put into a dungeon cell, where he remained for many days. Later King Zedekiah secretly requested that Jeremiah come to the palace, where the king asked him, “Do you have any messages from the Lord?” “Yes, I do!” said Jeremiah. “You will be defeated by the king of Babylon.””
Jeremiah 37:16-17 NLT
Lord willing: We will continue next time in our investigation of the relationship between the treatment of God’s word and the precipitating outcome.
Peace to you.
Jesus is coming! Get ready for Him!
