“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”

‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭9:6-7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Today—being July 4th—we step aside from the story of Joseph to speak of the Kingship of Jesus.

So, what does the Kingship of Jesus have to do with the birth of our nation?

Before I answer that question, I want to say that I am tired of the arguments over whether or not the United States of America is a Christian nation, or whether it was founded on Christian principles. Depending on where a person is coming from, “evidence” can be found to support either side of the argument. However, I will say that there is overwhelming evidence that a majority of those involved in the founding, did have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Yes, the point is made that Jesus is not explicitly referenced in our founding documents, but certainly the principles were incorporated therein. I will also note that Jesus not being explicitly mentioned, was one of our great mistakes. Notice, no other major religion backs away from associating their government with their beliefs.

As well, I’m also tired of pointing to things like the Crusades as proving that Christianity is oppressive. Dark moments in any history does not take away from the truth of any entity, religious, or otherwise.

Now, back to the question: What does the birthday of America have to do with the Kingship of Jesus?

First, I want to make clear that an honest study of how the events came together that we were able to form a nation, will reveal that there’s no other explanation except for miraculous intervention by God.

Clearly, there were major failings. As I mentioned earlier, not to directly own our Christianity was an error. As well, acquiescing to the horrors of slave trade, is a terrible wound only the Lord can heal. But, I will also point out that it was Christian leadership that abolished slavery in the United States.

In terms of directly answering our question: True justice will only be realized when our Lord rules and reigns over all the earth.

In the meantime, approaching any semblance of true justice is only possible when Christ is at the center of a government and repentance is the attitude of the people.

For today, I ask the Lord to bring justice to the United States of America, justice flowing through ditches dug by mercy.

Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. In His first appearing, He took on an envelope of flesh, coming to show us the Father, and to be the perfect sacrifice, making a way for us to obtain forgiveness of sins and be connected to His never-ending life. In His second coming, He will destroy the enemies of God and establish justice over all the earth.

As for now, any nation denying the sovereignty of Jesus Christ, any nation persecuting Christians, any nation that thinks government should be wholly separate from God, is destined to fail.

Justice will only reign when the Kingdom of God is on earth as it is in heaven. And even now, Jesus is our only hope.

Peace to you.

Jesus is coming! Get ready for Him!
