Year “But my eyes are upon You, O God the Lord; In You I take refuge; Do not leave my soul destitute.”
Psalms 141:8 NKJV
Last time (in our examination of Psalm 141) we saw David speaking of the fact that his persecutors would think nothing about killing him, and leaving him unburied, so that his bones could be scattered like stones are scattered when a plowman goes through a field.
In today’s portion of Psalm 141, David confesses his strategy when facing persecution at the hands of evil people: David looks to the Lord. And in looking to the Lord, he finds refuge.
The theme of looking to the Lord is repeated often throughout the psalms. We see this declared in Psalm 123:
“Unto You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens. Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the Lord our God, Until He has mercy on us. Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us! For we are exceedingly filled with contempt. Our soul is exceedingly filled With the scorn of those who are at ease, With the contempt of the proud.”
Psalms 123:1-4 NKJV
Indeed, the Lord Himself advises:
“Look to Me, and be saved, All you ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other. I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, And shall not return, That to Me every knee shall bow, Every tongue shall take an oath. He shall say, ‘Surely in the Lord I have righteousness and strength. To Him men shall come, And all shall be ashamed Who are incensed against Him.”
Isaiah 45:22-24 NKJV
Friend, evil people do evil deeds. Indeed, often with the righteous in the bullseye for their attacks. However, focusing on these attacks only steals our peace. And looking to any other source for help will inevitably prove futile. But keeping our eyes on the Lord, seeking Him for relief, will bring strength for our journey, no matter where that journey leads.
Peace to you.
Jesus is coming! Get ready for Him!
